Jay recently undertook the redesign of his own home. Built in 1915, the only architectural element of this Edwardian cottage that demanded attention was the kitchen. But what self-respecting designer could ever stop with one room? The remodel of the kitchen soon took on a life of its own, and the result was a stylish new look for the entire home.
"As the kitchen progressed, I started thinking of other things to do - refinish the hardwood floors, finally replace that chandelier that I never liked in the sitting room, paint the entire house.... Suddenly I was selling furniture, reupholstering antiques, refinishing tables and buying art. By the time the kitchen was finished, the house had taken on a handsomely quirky new look - its a space full of pattern of color filled with 19th and 20th century antique and vintage finds that have been collected over many years."
