About The Firm

Jeffers Design Group creates luxurious but livable homes. Spaces with soul and atmosphere that feel collected over time.

I started JDG in my guest bedroom 14 years ago with one client. My design and my clients have evolved over the years, but my original goal hasn’t changed: to create beautiful, livable homes that are well-edited, collected, reflect my clients’ personalities and have a touch of whimsy. Design doesn’t have to take itself too seriously.

We live in a busy world: work, play, kids, friends and family. Everyone is always on the go. You want your home to be a wonderful place to come home to, where you can entertain, raise a family and enjoy life. But you surely don’t want to be worried about someone setting a drink down on a table or kids coloring at the coffee table.

All projects at JDG are lead by myself and Principal Designer Kelly Hohla (see photo of us above to sum up our working relationship). Kelly has been with JDG for eight years and runs a tight ship. I have purposely kept my team small and focused, it is a fantastic group of quality people. As a result, we have the ability to take on any size project – from an 800-square-foot apartment in the Millennium Tower to a 6,000-square-foot apartment in Manhattan to a 25,000-square-foot estate in Woodside and everything in between. We have seamlessly executed projects all over the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Tahoe, Florida, Texas and New York.

The common goal no matter the size of your home is to make the process easy and enjoyable for you. We have several ways of working:

Collaborative Teamwork – JDG works with many architects, contractors, landscape architects and artisans. A collaborative team makes for a strong project and takes all the pressure off of the clients. We can put the team together for you or join a team already formed.

Remodeling – I have always believed in getting the bones right before decorating, ensuring the interior architecture is just right: we can reposition walls and stairs, replace fireplaces, remodel kitchens and baths, and update lighting before even adding a coat of paint. JDG can handle all of this work so you aren’t managing a large team.

Interior Design – Decorating involves selecting each unique element that transforms a house into your home – including furniture, window coverings, wall and floor coverings, lighting, accessories and art.

In all cases, you choose how involved you would like to be. Some of our clients like to see the initial concept and then want us to just run with it. Other clients prefer to be involved in every decision and see every piece. Our team will consult with you to determine how you’d like to work.

Kelly Hohla

Meeting over cocktails eight years ago, Kelly Hohla and Jay Jeffers discovered a shared appreciation for bold, innovative design.  The rest is history.  Hohla joined Jeffers Design Group in 2005, and has been a leader and integral member of the firm ever since. Over her thirteen-year design career, she has successfully collaborated on residences spanning the Bay Area from the Peninsula to wine country, as well as in New York, Hawaii and Tahoe. From large scale projects to small, Hohla’s inspired custom designs and passion for antiques and vintage elements bring warmth and personality into each space she creates, while her astute eye for detail ensures JDG’s projects enjoy both high style and impeccable implementation. She has worked on projects published in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Metropolitan Home, House Beautiful, California Home & Design and many others. A native of Southern California, Hohla holds a BA in Communications with a minor in Visual Arts from UCSD.
